Terms of Service
Effective October 8, 2026
The short version
- Montage is free to use right now. Your AI plan and any providers you add bill you directly.
- The films you make are yours. You are responsible for having the rights to what you put in them.
- Your agent works on your Mac on your behalf. Review what it makes before you publish it.
- The app is provided as is, and Vietnamese law governs these terms.
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Trần Thanh Hải (Tom Tran), an individual developer based in Vietnam who operates Montage Studio (“Montage”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Montage Studio app for macOS, the Montage Clipper browser extension, our servers and montagestudio.app (together, the “Service”). By signing in or using the Service you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use Montage for a company, you accept them for that company and confirm you may do so.
2. Who can use Montage
You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter a binding agreement. You may not use Montage if the law where you live forbids it.
3. Your account
You sign in with a Google account. Keep access to your Mac and your Google account secure; you are responsible for what happens under your Montage account. Tell us at hello@montagestudio.app if you think someone else is using it.
4. What you need, and who bills you
Montage directs a coding agent on your Mac to make your film. To use it you need:
- a Mac that runs the app;
- your own Claude Code (Anthropic) or Codex (OpenAI) account and plan;
- optionally, accounts and API keys with media providers such as ElevenLabs, Google Gemini, fal, Freesound, Pixabay or Pexels.
These are third-party services. Your use of them is governed by their terms, and they charge you directly; we don’t receive or control those charges. Cost figures shown in the app are estimates. You are responsible for the usage and limits you set with each provider.
5. Price
Montage is currently free. We may introduce paid plans or features later. We will tell you before that happens, and we will never charge you without your explicit agreement.
6. License to use the app
We give you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the app and the Clipper for personal or commercial work, as long as you follow these terms. You may not:
- sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app or the content library as such;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- get around sign-in, signatures, rate limits or other protections, or access our servers other than through the app;
- overload, disrupt or probe our servers, or use the Service to distribute malware.
The app, its design, the Montage name and logo, and the content library remain ours or our licensors’. Open-source components included in the app are under their own licenses, which take precedence for those components.
7. Your content and your films
Between you and us, you own what you bring to Montage (briefs, references, assets, notes) and the films and other output you make with it. We claim no rights to them, and because they stay on your Mac we don’t receive them.
Output made by AI may resemble other work and may not be unique. You are responsible for reviewing your films before you publish them and for how you use them.
8. References and third-party material
Montage lets you collect references, such as videos, images, websites and music, and fetch them to your Mac to guide your film. You are responsible for:
- having the right to use any material you add, fetch or include in a film, and respecting the terms of the sites you fetch from;
- not publishing films that copy protected work, trademarks or brand assets you are not allowed to use.
Music in the Montage library is released under CC0 unless its entry says otherwise. Stock footage, images, sound effects and generated media you get through third-party providers come with those providers’ licenses.
9. Acceptable use
Don’t use Montage to make or share content that:
- breaks the law or infringes someone else’s rights;
- impersonates a real person or organization, or depicts a real person without their consent in a misleading way;
- deceives people, for example fake endorsements, fake reviews or misleading claims about a product;
- harasses, threatens or exploits anyone, or sexualizes minors;
- breaks the usage policies of the AI and media providers you use.
10. Your agent and your Mac
The coding agent you connect runs on your Mac, under your account with its provider, and can read and write files in your project, run tools and call the providers you set up. Montage limits what it can reach, but you stay in control of your Mac, your accounts and your keys. Keep backups of work that matters to you.
11. Updates and the content library
The app checks for updates and downloads the content library from our servers. Updates install only when you choose to. We may add, change or remove features and library items over time. A sign-in is needed for library and app updates; the app keeps working offline for a limited time.
12. Feedback
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely and without owing you anything.
13. Ending your use
You can stop using Montage at any time and delete your account in Settings → Account. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the Service; where reasonable, we will tell you first. Sections 7, 8 and 14 to 17 continue after your access ends.
14. Disclaimers
Montage is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. AI output can be wrong, unexpected or unsuitable, and we don’t guarantee any particular result, quality or cost.
15. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, or for charges from third-party providers. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 50 US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
16. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you made or published with Montage, or because you broke these terms, you will cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam. If a dispute comes up, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it informally. If we can’t resolve it within 60 days, it goes to the competent courts of Vietnam. If you are a consumer, you keep any protections that the law of the country where you live gives you and that an agreement can’t take away.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here and update the date above, and tell you in the app or by email before significant changes take effect. If you keep using Montage after that, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree, stop using it and delete your account.
19. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term right away, we haven’t waived it. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a sale or merger of Montage.
